INSIGHT PSYCHOLOGY GROUP
Helping Children and Adolescents Discover and Develop Their Strengths
Is your child or adolescent struggling at school? Are they having difficulty keeping up with academic demands and course expectations? Do they seem disorganized, impulsive, and distracted? Do you have concerns with their report cards and comments from school?

If so, it may be time to consult a psychologist and pursue a professional and comprehensive psycho-educational assessment. Using standardized assessment tools, we conduct complete assessments which examine:
Intellectual Ability
Academic Achievement
Behaviour and Emotions
Attention Deficits (as required)
Adaptive Skills (as required)

We will also do a complete file review of any documents you can provide. This may include past report cards, IPPs, behaviour plans, comments from school, and/or past assessments. We will also talk to school personnel as needed.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR VISIT
PURPOSE
The purpose of a psycho-educational assessment is to provide an age-referenced profile of a child's cognitive, academic, and behavioural functioning. This process will help us gain insight and identify areas of strength as well as areas of challenge. We then want to build on a child's strengths so that we may provide succinct, actionable, and proactive strategies and recommendations that can guide your child's programming in their educational setting. Because our psychologist also has extensive experience as an educator, recommendations are practical and accessible for the school.
Armed with these results, you can become your child's greatest advocate!
WHAT TO EXPECT
Upon your first visit, we will conduct an extensive background questionnaire with parents/guardians so that we may gather pertinent information about your child. We will ask about the following:
your child's strengths and presenting concerns
family information
developmental history (from pregnancy until today)
medical history
family medical history
social, emotional, and behavioural presentation
We will then book your child/adolescent in for their assessment. Assessments are typically 4-5 hours depending on the participant. We generally schedule the assessment over 2 days.
You will then receive a comprehensive written report. Timelines vary, but in most cases, you will have this report within 2 weeks. If you need it sooner because of a school placement issue, please let us know when booking the assessment, and we will do our best to accommodate.
WHAT COULD BE IDENTIFIED
The assessment process could result in a diagnosis of an Intellectual Disability, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Gifted and Talented, Anxiety Disorder, Depression, Specific Learning Disorder. It could also result in a recommendation for other specialists.

COST
Comprehensive Psycho-Educational Assessments start at $2350. With more complex profiles, if many additional subtests or meetings need to be added, the rate becomes $235 per additional hour.
